Meet The Artist – FROST’D

We are introducing you to Jessica Hamel today- the owner behind the amazingly delicious FROST’D.  America’s first ever and ONLY coconut oil snack frosting!  I’m so glad to have found this business to feature and share their Mexican Hot Chocolate in our February Subscription Box.

My husband and I are not big fans of cake. EVER.  No cake has really been able to take us over that threshold from cake-haters to cake-lovers. EVER.  (Although my grandmother does make a mean 7-Up cake).

But I’m making dessert for our dinner plans tomorrow night and it is Valentines Day and what’s more iconic on Valentines Day for dessert than the traditional, good ole Chocolate & Strawberries?

I turned to my full arsenal of February Box goodness and while I was thumbing through my Vol 18: Chocolate Recipe Book by Susie Heller from Short Stack Editions I came across a recipe for “The Best Chocolate Layer Cake” and figured…why not??   It does say in the preface that “of all the chocolate cakes in the world, [Susie’s] confidently basic layer cake is the only recipe you’ll ever need.”  So with that recipe in hand, I decided to pair it with Freeze Dried Strawberries from The Fruit Boxx and Mexican Hot Chocolate from FROST’D. and the result turned out like this:

We’ll let you know how it turned out ;o)

So…Mexican Hot Chocolate Coconut Oil Snack Frosting?!?!  Yes!!  Coconut Oil Snack Frosting!  Jessica actually encourages you to just go right on in with a spoon and eat it right out of the jar (which I have) because it’s got real ingredients, organic ingredients and no artificial flavors flavors or sweeteners and no hydrogenated or palm oils!  The stuff is amazing and incredibly addicting.

We’ve had it on toast with bananas, on animal crackers, in oatmeal, mixed in coffee and I’d love to know how you use FROST’D. either in the comment section below or go to Facebook or Instagram and use hashtag #followyoursweettooth to let us know!

Before I introduce you to Jessica, I do want to let you know about something she is currently over on her website.  For the month of February, she is donating 10% of all her online sales to help raise money for Big City Mountaineers – an organization that “instills critical life skills in under-resourced urban youth through transformative wilderness mentoring expeditions.”  If you’re interested in trying this out for yourself, please do go over to www.eatfrostd.com to purchase some for yourself and then buy another to share with a friend.

You’ll be helping to make a difference…not just a purchase…and you know how much we like that!!!

Now, Let’s meet Jessica and FROST’D.:

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Cooking and baking has always been my creative outlet; it’s my art. On the other end of the spectrum, I’m an ultra-runner. What does that mean? I run far, sometimes 100 miles. Because of my running, I’ve always had an insatiable sweet tooth. My food philosophy has always been about balance, but making sure that I’m filling my body with nourishment and not artificial ingredients. I’ve never been afraid to indulge a little.

Where did you come up with the name FROST’D.?

FROST’D. is just a fun word and doesn’t have too much significance. The gold F with the arrows, however, stands for follow your sweet tooth, follow your heart and follow your passion. FROST’D. is more than frosting, it’s about living and experiencing life to the fullest with a whole lot of passion.

Tell us a little about your career:

To be honest, I’ve had a pretty varied career. I’ve always the entrepreneurial spirit, but never knew how it would transpire. My career started in fashion. I was an intern at Teen Vogue and Seventh House PR (where I helped with shows for New York Fashion Week.) I quickly learned I loved the creativity of that industry, but it just wasn’t completely for me. When I moved out to Boulder, CO I started working in different technology start-ups focused on social media. From there I opened my first company, a small social media agency. I still felt the desire to create something tangible to put out into the world and, so, FROST’D. was born.

What is your specialty?

I’m not one to be boring and I’m always looking for exciting flavors and unique ingredients. I want people to be intrigued,  and maybe even a little bit scared, to try my new combinations.

Where does your inspiration come from?

The world around me. Part of the new flavor that is coming out next month (March 2017) was inspired by my travels this month up the West Coast.  From Chai to baked goods, people were doing such unique things with cardamom that I knew I wanted to deliver my own take on it.

Who or what has been most influential in your career? A Person? A Book? A Life Experience?

It’s tough for me to point out one person. The people who do come to mind now I probably wouldn’t have picked out during my time spent with them. I’ve been able to learn from and work with a lot of amazing female entrepreneurs and business leaders and, even to this day, I’m surrounded by so much inspiration. Check out the project I worked on: www.followyourpassionproject.com

Where would you like to be in 5 years?

Here. It may not seem like it all the time, but I’m living the dream. I live in gorgeous Boulder, CO and I’m working my butt off on two companies I’m very passionate about. But, we always want to be moving forward, right? My only hope is FROST’D. has grown to point where I can start to grow the team and work on more projects to inspire and empower people.

Wes Anderson.

How do you primarily sell your products?

Online and in stores.

What would you like people to know about why it’s important to support the local community/local artists?

When you support your local community and artist you are supporting a dream.
