It’s getting to be that time of year when we start looking for or pulling out our bug sprays to help keep us and our families protected from all kinds of havoc those pesky little “buggers” start inflicting!
In our family, we try to make a point to search for and use natural options when it comes to skin care products and since all of the products in our box this month are inspired by nature in some shape or fashion, I thought it would be fitting to include an all-natural, 100% organic bug spray.
But you’ll notice, this isn’t just any kind of bug spray.  This is COMBAT-READY BUG REPELLANT… “A powerful botanical bug spray made with natural ingredients. Originally used by U.S. Troops overseas to repel mosquitoes, sand fleas and other biting insects.”…made by a Washington DC based company called Skincando.
Sara and her products have been featured in over 20 publications and news stories including GQ, Organic Spa and Men’s Journal and her business was voted “Best of the City” by DC Magazine:
In addition to the Combat Ready line of products, you can also find Skincando Luxe and Skincando Kids on their website.
I’m so excited to be sharing this product with you, as well as introducing you to another small business owner as we “Discover America One Box At a Time”!
Let’s meet Sara and Skincando:
Tell us a little about yourself:

Tell us a little about your career…
More than 15 years ago, I set out to fix my problem skin.
After extensive research and formulation, I found my answer: my own line of 100 percent organic skincare products.
The famed Skincando balms are made from the purest, cleanest ingredients, and are handcrafted with care from start to finish in my Washington DC-area workshop.
Not long after Skincando was born, I received a request from a US soldier serving in Iraq for more of the “magic balm” that soothed his itchy, irritated skin. I complied, and created Operation Sand Flea, a not-for-profit arm under Skincando that donates a portion of the products to members of the US Military.
A little more about Operation Sand Flea from the Skincando website:

“As the creator of Combat-Ready Balm, I have been donating Combat-Ready care packages to our US troops overseas since 2005. The feedback regarding my Combat-Ready Balm has been especially moving; it is the only cream that our soldiers have used which both calms and soothes their incessant sand flea bites, sunburn and dry skin.

Operation Sand Flea brings our troops relief on a much larger scale. With every donated jar, I will send the soldiers a thank you note and mention the cream is a gift from you.

If you would like to send your donation to a specific service member please include shipping address of where you would like the care package sent. Skincando will cover the shipping cost and include extra donated products.
